Background: | Palmitoylated membrane protein 2 is a member of a family of membrane-associated proteins termed MAGUKs (membrane-associated guanylate kinase homologs). MAGUKs interact with the cytoskeleton and regulate cell proliferation, signaling pathways, and intracellular junctions. Palmitoylated membrane protein 2 contains a conserved sequence, called the SH3 (src homology 3) motif, found in several other proteins that associate with the cytoskeleton and are suspected to play important roles in signal transduction. |
UniProt Protein Function: | MPP2: a protein of the MAGUK family. Contains one guanylate kinase-like domain, one SH3 domain, one PDZ domain, and two L27 domains. L27 domains are foun CASK in receptor targeting proteins including Lin-2, -4, -5, -6 and -7C, as well as the protein kinases. Three isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Adaptor/scaffold Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17q12-q21 Cellular Component: membrane; integral to plasma membrane Molecular Function:guanylate kinase activity; PDZ domain binding Biological Process: signal transduction; nucleotide phosphorylation |
