Background: |
UniProt Protein Function: | MED30: Component of the Mediator complex, a coactivator involved in the regulated transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator functions as a bridge to convey information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and serves as a scaffold for the assembly of a functional preinitiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors. Belongs to the Mediator complex subunit 30 family. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Nuclear receptor co-regulator Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8q24.11 Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; nucleus; Srb-mediator complex Molecular Function:protein binding; receptor activity; thyroid hormone receptor binding; transcription cofactor activity Biological Process: androgen receptor signaling pathway; positive regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; steroid hormone receptor signaling pathway; transcription initiation from RNA polymerase II promoter |
NCBI Summary: | The multiprotein TRAP/Mediator complex facilitates gene expression through a wide variety of transcriptional activators. MED30 is a component of this complex that appears to be metazoan specific (Baek et al., 2002 [PubMed 11909976]).[supplied by OMIM, Nov 2010] |
