UniProt Protein Function:DEK: a ubiquitous protein with a SAP domain, which is found in a variety of nuclear proteins involved in transcription, DNA repair, RNA processing or apoptotic chromatin degradation. This protein binds to cruciform and superhelical DNA and induces positive supercoils into closed circular DNA and is also involved in splice site selection during mRNA processing. A chromosomal aberration involving DEK is found in a subset of acute myeloid leukemias (AML).
