Background: | This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and is thought to be the predominant enzyme responsible for epoxidation of endogenous arachidonic acid in cardiac tissue. Multiple transcript variants have been found for this gene. |
UniProt Protein Function: | CYP2J2: This enzyme metabolizes arachidonic acid predominantly via a NADPH-dependent olefin epoxidation to all four regioisomeric cis-epoxyeicosatrienoic acids. One of the predominant enzymes responsible for the epoxidation of endogenous cardiac arachidonic acid pools. Belongs to the cytochrome P450 family. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:EC 1.14.14.1; Contractile; Oxidoreductase; Lipid Metabolism - linoleic acid; Lipid Metabolism - arachidonic acid Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p31.3-p31.2 Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum membrane Molecular Function:arachidonic acid 11,12-epoxygenase activity; arachidonic acid 14,15-epoxygenase activity; arachidonic acid epoxygenase activity; monooxygenase activity; steroid hydroxylase activity Biological Process: epoxygenase P450 pathway; icosanoid metabolic process; linoleic acid metabolic process; regulation of heart contraction; xenobiotic metabolic process |
