UniProt Protein Function: | ASH1L: a protein methyltransferase that specifically methylates K36 of histone H3 (H3K36me). A member of the trithorax group (trxG) of transcriptional activators that is required for proper expression of Hox genes and is preferentially expressed in haematopoietic stem cells. Widely expressed, with high levels in brain, heart and kidney. The protein contains four AT hooks, a SET domain, a PHD-finger motif, and a bromodomain. It is localized to many small speckles in the nucleus, and also to cell-cell tight junctions. Protein type: Cell adhesion; EC 2.1.1.43; Amino Acid Metabolism - lysine degradation; Methyltransferase, protein lysine; Methyltransferase Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q22 Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; Golgi apparatus; tight junction; cytoplasm; chromosome; nucleus Molecular Function: DNA binding; zinc ion binding; histone lysine N-methyltransferase activity (H3-K4 specific); chromatin binding Biological Process: transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; cell-cell signaling; negative regulation of MAPKKK cascade; interleukin-6 production; histone H3-K4 methylation; negative regulation of acute inflammatory response; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; negative regulation of I-kappaB kinase/NF-kappaB cascade; DNA packaging |
