Background: | Alpha-1-adrenergic receptors (alpha-1-ARs) are members of the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. They activate mitogenic responses and regulate growth and proliferation of many cells. There are 3 alpha-1-AR subtypes: alpha-1A, -1B and -1D, all of which signal through the Gq/11 family of G-proteins and different subtypes show different patterns of activation. This gene encodes alpha-1D-adrenergic receptor. Similar to alpha-1B-adrenergic receptor gene, this gene comprises 2 exons and a single intron that interrupts the coding region. |
UniProt Protein Function: | ADRA1D: This alpha-adrenergic receptor mediates its effect through the influx of extracellular calcium. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Adrenergic receptor subfamily. ADRA1D sub-subfamily. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:GPCR, family 1; Receptor, GPCR; Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 20p13 Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane Molecular Function:protein binding Biological Process: cell proliferation; cell-cell signaling; DNA metabolic process; elevation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration; G-protein coupled receptor protein signaling pathway; G-protein signaling, coupled to cAMP nucleotide second messenger; G-protein signaling, coupled to IP3 second messenger (phospholipase C activating); multicellular organismal development; norepinephrine-epinephrine vasoconstriction involved in regulation of systemic arterial blood pressure; positive regulation of cell proliferation; positive regulation of smooth muscle contraction; positive regulation of vasoconstriction |
