| Background: | The acyl-CoA synthetase medium-chain (ACSM) family is comprised of ACSM1, ACSM2A, ACSM2B, ACSM3, ACSM4 and ACSM5, which encode for enzymes catalyzing the activation of medium-chain length fatty acid, ACSM5 is a 579 amino acid, protein has a broad substrate specificity and utilizes magnesium or manganese as a cofactor. ACSM5 is expressed in kidney and liver. |
| Synonyms: | acyl-CoA synthetase medium-chain family member 5 |
| UniProt Protein Function: | ACSM5: Has medium-chain fatty acid:CoA ligase activity with broad substrate specificity (in vitro). Acts on acids from C(4) to C(11) and on the corresponding 3-hydroxy- and 2,3- or 3,4- unsaturated acids (in vitro). Belongs to the ATP-dependent AMP-binding enzyme family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.Protein type: Carbohydrate Metabolism - butanoate; Mitochondrial; EC 6.2.1.2; LigaseChromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 16p12.3 |
